Spherical shaped storage tanks are typically used in ambient temperature storage of LPG, Butane, Propane, Ammonia, Gasoline, Ethane, petrochemical and etc. Also, spheres can serve in storages under different conditions by keeping the design temperature low.

The main advantage of the spherical construction is that the stress concentration in a spherical shape will be minimal while storing pressurized gases as the stress resistance will be uniform over the total surface. Another advantage is the reduced exterior surface for a given storage volume as compared to all other possible shapes.

Spherical storage tanks are designed in accordance with international standards such as ASME, AD2000MB, CODAP, EN13445, AS 1210. Design pressure, temperatures, test conditions and dimensions are evaluated and designed based on the project and the product to be stored.

Although spherical storage tanks are mostly used in above-ground storage, they can be designed as mounded tanks according to the project demands.
